Artist’s Statement

Marci LiefI am a 71-year-old trained social worker who has spent over 40 years working as an interior designer.

Throughout my life, I have carried a passion for human rights, politics, and art. Inspired by artist friends, I’ve explored many art forms through classes and experimentation. My early works were acrylics on small canvases, but today I work almost exclusively in digital painting.

Much of my recent work brings together my concern for human rights and political issues with my love of beauty and color. I try to portray the resilience and dignity of the human spirit amidst the horrors and fears of contemporary life.

Two collections particularly reflect this duality:
• “All Dressed Up / Afraid to Go Out” : depicts beautiful yet anxious souls peeking into a world of fear.
• “Sticking Together / Better Together” : a reflection on solidarity and community in uncertain times.

When I take a break from political themes, I play freely with color, texture and shape—creating abstract faces, flowers, baskets and other forms that I hope simply delight the eye.

For me, painting has become a refuge, a way to create and communicate.
